i don't have a solution for your present situation, but would suggest in the future to anyone learning to use a new or unfamiliar tool / feature to do it on a "scratch" file, not on work that is important. not only do you not screw up a file you need to then spend way too much time and effort cleaning up, the learning process is also then immeasurably less frustrating.
