Dear Barbara, Christopher and Darcy are spot on - exactly right about Bill's rhythmic authority. The trick is to listen and feel the pulse as Bill felt and expressed it, and it's far simpler than this transcription indicates.
I played with Bill for about 6 years and his expression of underlying pulse was so clear that it was possible to play all the rubatos with him - always coordinated and without so much as the slightest head nod from Bill. Since that was not only possible but even easy, it should be possible to hear and notate this clearly. It is extraordinarily beautiful and worth doing. Where there may be useful information in this transcription is in the notation of some of the subdivisions in the melody.
