That is a very strange way to transcribe the rhythm. I can’t see any logical 
reason for the brackets you mention: I’d just ignore them.

I’d be very interested to see your final version of this. How are you going to 
approach the notation of the rhythms? Put it all in 4/4 and give detailed 
rubato indications?
