The intent here is to raise the 5th a half step. If you were a piano player reading a chord chart, would you rather see B-9#5, or G(add2)(#11)/B? They both spell the exact same notes, but the first example is far easier to recognize. Or how about this - Dmaj7(sus4)/B.
