Thanks Jef But if I if I understood you correctly, that gives me the opposite of what I want.
By turning off the percussion settings in Score Manager that just gives the range of usual noteheads & no circle with an "x" within it. As a percussionist I have long held that there is no need for alternate noteheads. However, this is a percussion quartet with continual changes between a variety of tuned and untuned instruments. So to make it clear to the players I am using different noteheads (squares for templeblocks, triangles for triangles etc). I don't know why Finale can't just have all noteheads shown in the special tools. I also don't know why the notations of percussion instruments are scored so inflexibly.
