They would be either CDs or DVDs. You would need to have an optical drive either built into your Mac or you would need to have an externally connected optical drive to use those.
The fact that more and more notebook computers are coming without optical drives is one of the driving forces behind more and more software publishers making their software available for download after purchase and charging an extra fee to get the installation disks.
