They're most probably in /sw/bin (or anywhere in /sw, /usr/X11R6). But you won't be able to double-click them to run them, if that's what you were thinking. What you need to do is to start your X11 server, and that's done by starting the app called Xdarwin, which is in your /Applications if all is normal (so yes there were new things installed in that folder too), or by typing 'startx -- -rootless' in the terminal. Once that's running you will get a couple of terminals and stuff with different looking windows (green IIRC if you haven't installed another windowmanager than the default twm). In one of these type <appname> & (I don't have gimp installed so I'm not sure what the executable is called, but I suppose 'gimp &' should do the trick). This will launch the application, in a new window (provided it's a graphical app).
