Yes, but be careful--in the simplest mode fink tries to install the latest
version of a package, and so an unstable version will take precedence over a
stable one.  This can be overridden by specifying a version number, as long
as an appropriate .info file exists.

Having said that, you'll need to edit /sw/etc/fink.conf .  There's a line
that starts with 'Trees:'; change 'stable' to 'unstable' (both places).

Unstable packages can be of lower reliability than stable ones, but not
infrequently they work fine, and are just in unstable because the maintainer
hasn't received enough positive feedback to justify moving them to stable.
