Unfortunately, issuing either fink reinstall gettext or fink install 
gettext doesn't work for me - in either case, I crash in exactly the 
same way as with fink selfupdate.

Perhaps there is some dependency (I see from the debian gettext page 
that it depends on  libc6 and gettext-base) which is not being taken 
account of correctly. Anyone know about this?
