Holger, I had a similar problem when I first installed OroborOSX. At the same time I ran a fink update all and somehow that "broke" XonX, XDarwin or whatever you want to call it to float your boat :) The XDarwin app appeared as a folder. To fix the problem I went to the XonX website and downloaded the latest version of the app and reinstalled it (after using BatChMod to change the owner of the XDarwin "folder" so I could delete it via trash). After reinstalling XDarwin I was able to launch it again.
Also, I copied the following paragraph from http://fink.sourceforge.net/doc/x11/trouble.php#immedate-quit Another common cause for XFree86 startup failures is an incorrect .xinitrc file. What happens is that the .xinitrc is run and for some reason terminates almost immediately. xinit interprets this as "the user's session has ended" and kills XDarwin. See the .xinitrc section for more details. Remember to set up the PATH and to have one long-lived program that is not started in the background. It is a good idea to add exec xterm as a fallback when your window manager or similar can't be found. After doing both of these I was able to use the OroborOSX windows manager (although it's not my preferred-I use Enlightenment for daily use) to see what it was like.
