OK, how about trying to do the force-depends with a newer version of gnome-vfs? See if you can do a 'fink build gnome-vfs', hopefully getting 1.05, and then do the dpkg -i force-depends on the resulting deb.
Don't worry about the multiple versions--that's a feature not a bug.
