I had the same effects. It does not matter which packages of fink you
are treating. I believe it has to do with a high write-access rate to
your harddrive. I disabled any automatic checking of my Symantec
(Norton) Filesaver and Virusscan. Since then, I haven't seen the
problem any more. Do you have any Symantec s/w installed on your
machine?
