Hello Fink-beginners,

I am new to UNIX/Darwin, but would like to use a few of the available programs (i.e., GRASS) for my research. I just downloaded and installed FINK, xfree86-base, x-free86rootless, and Sawfish "successfully" on my Titanium G4 running OS10.2.2. I get the green Xterm window etc. to run but my problem is that I can't get Sawfish (and eventually GNOME) to run. I guess I need to override the start-up of the default window manager that comes packaged with xfree86? To do this I am guessing that I need to edit the .init file for xDarwin? or is there some other way?

Could someone point me in the right direction? I have looked all over the web (FINK, Sawfish, GNOME, web sites etc.) that last few days and couldn't find anything (or I didn't recognize it).

Any help with also getting GNOME to run would be appreciated.

thanks in advance
John Demboski
