amazing... ok, now what should I do next?
I been following the instruction's given to a "T"

Last time you reported a fink list xfree86, it showed that xfree86-rootless was not installed.

Let me speak very slowly:

When you say "fink install xfree86-base", it compiles 4 (four) packages, but it installs only 2 (two).

For a completely working X11 system, you need the other 2, too. They are not installed automatically. You need to install them separately.

fink install xfree86-rootless
(or use FinkCommander to install it)

This will, in fact, install both of the missing packages.
They will not be recompiled, only installed. It takes only a couple of seconds.

Now why this is so, is another question. You may call it a bug that these two packages are needed, but not installed. I think this was discussed some time ago, but I am willing to take it up again with the package maintainer, because I too think it behaves like a bug.
