Verify that you do indeed have /sw/bin/gnome-session on your machine. Also, it looks like you are running Apple X11. If so, then you should add the following line near the top of your .xinitrc :
. /sw/bin/init.sh Note: this shouldn't be init.csh, since .xinitrc is run by sh.
