A look at the website for xdrawchem however lists no OS X 10.2 version
requirements for this program, so if indeed Fink is separating out 10.1 and

latest?

I've tried downloading the latest from the web site itself and running "fink
install xdrawchem-1.6.4-1" but it says that the package doesn't exist. I've
also read that you can manually download the .info and .package files, but
for several programs I can't find them. Can I just copy over the .info and
.patch files from the 10.2 directory?
I'm not sure I'm following you. You mean you're still on 10.1 and you want to install xdrawchem from the 10.2 tree?

The separation is not necessarily one of "does the software build only on 10.2", it is one of "is the maintainer supporting and testing the package on 10.2". I don't know of any fink maintainers that are actively maintaining their packages in the 10.1 tree anymore, development has all moved on to Jaguar.

While it's possible some packages that are only in the "10.2" tree may work on 10.1, no one has ever been able to confirm they would work, and the user base of 10.1 dwindles as time goes on, so there isn't much call for backporting them.

Is that what you were asking?
If it is, and you need something backported, I will help. I know there are some people still using 10.1, especially the server versions, and if there are packages than are needed i will attempt to backport them. Most are really easy, and need little or no change.
