I'd like to install Apple's X11 0.3 ALONGSIDE (rather than instead of) my
existing X11. I know they go in the same directory, so my plan was to mv my
existing X11 to another dir name and install Apple's. I can then write a
little shell script that swaps the directory names appropriately when I wish to
switch between them.

My question is, other than /usr/X11R6/ and /etc/X11/, what ELSE will I need to
keep track of (if anything) to keep these installations out of one another's
way? I assume my .xinitrc. Anything else? I don't know of anything else, but
I just want to be sure.

Some other questions that arise out of this:

1. Does Apple's X11 use ~/.xinitrc? I seem to recall someone mentioning
that it didn't -- or did I imagine that?
2. Just curious -- will the latest OroborOSX run with Apple's /usr/X11R6?
3. Just curious -- will Apple's window manager run with X-Darwin's
install of /usr/X11R6/?

(As of 0.2, they were close to, but not quite, the same version of XFree86,
though I don't know if Apple is making any custom tweaks. What's the XFree86
version in 0.3? And ARE they making any custom tweaks, or is all the work in
the window manager?)

Direct cc's appreciated; I'm on the digestified list.

Thanks,
David Craig
