Hi All,
I am Tony Baldwin, webmaster of School-Library.net
and Photodharma.com
I am a 7th grade language arts teacher and a
freelance, amateur photographer. I have been using
Linux at home for about a year now and purchased an
 iBook this winter. (700mhz/640mb).
I am already using OpenOffice.org and the Gimp on my
iBook, but wanted to expand my OSS capabilities, to
which end I am presently downloading Fink onto my
iBook while writing to you from my main Linux box
 (RedHat 8.0 on homemade Pentium3 1ghz 512mb machine).
I have tried to use parts of the gnu-darwin
distribution, but seem to lack some necessary skills
to set it up and get it running.
My site School-Library.net is an academic resource
for
teachers, students and schools and, especially,
 advocates for OSS in schools.
I am not a trained computer expert by any means and
have only owned a copmuter since October of 2000, but
believe I have learned more than the average user
since then. I still have MUCH to learn, though.
I look forward to using this project and, hopefully,
contributing to it, as well, and advocating for it's
 use in schools.

 Tony Baldwin

Update:
Downloaded, but having install issues.
I had a /sw dierctory that I created whn trying to
install from the gnu-darwin cds I have.
At terminal I removed the old /sw and started fresh.
I am following the directions on the download page.
I open the image, start the installer. Good.
Then I open pico and enter the command "source
/sw/bin/init.csh" as suggested. good.
I close pico, open a new terminal and enter "fink
scanpackages"
I get a "fink: command not found"
message.

What's up?

Tony
