After a bit of checking, it looks like the error happens very early in the
build of kdebase3-ssl (see below).
The specific error messages aren't familiar to me: hopefully the maintainer is reading and may see something obvious.

Do you have GCC 3.3 from the XCode update enabled? KDE 3.1.x doesn't build properly with GCC 3.3 (that's the only thing I'm aware of that causes this error).
-- We put a lot of thought into our defaults. We like them. If we didn't, we would have made something else be the default. So keep your cotton-pickin' hands off our defaults. Don't touch. Consider them mandatory. "Mandatory defaults" has a nice ring to it.
