That was the wrong config file but the right hint. My ~/.qt was owned by root and changing the owner at least brought me one step closer to a solution now that the error message above disappeared and only the one that scribus won't find any fonts was left. I then reinstalled Xfree86.org's Xfree 4.3.0 installed all the fonts this time, updated fink and everything runs fine now. Thanks to you and Alexander.
