As far as I can tell, mplayer itself doesn't depend on emacs--it must be some other dependency.
It depends on arts which depends on autoconf2.54, and autoconf2.54 depends on emacsen. Why that should be so (none of the numerous other autoconf packages depend on emacsen), I don't know. Might be a bug.
