Hello, I'm new to this list, I switched to Mac OS X a few weeks ago, I managed to install 10.2.6 on a 8600 with XPostFacto. Now I'm trying to install some unix apps with Fink. I ran into the following problem when I tried to install Amaya.
I installed the X11 package and the X11 SDK from Apple which seems to work: When I fire up the X11.app it opens with an xterm window.
After that I tried to install Amaya with fink which also seems to install XFree86. After hours of compiling when I try to fire up amaya I get this:
Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library GUI can't be initialized gdk_imlib ERROR: gdk has not connected to the display *** Amaya: Irrecoverable error ***
I tried several times, choosing different options I was presented with
when I installed amaya: first the default system-xfree86 and, after
removing everything, xfree86-base. Neither worked. Tonight I thoroughly
removed everything and tried again, this time installing system-xfree86
first with Fink, and then installing amaya. The result is still the same
error messages, see above..
What could be the problem here? What would be a good way to troubleshoot
this? I'm not _totally_ new to unix and the command line but I wouldn't
call myself an experienced unix user just jet...
Any help appreciated,
Steven
