The command gives the following result, of which I understand Nil (i'm a fink and macosx newbie):

I don't know if that's the problem, but it seems that the placeholder file for existing xfree86 - system-xfree86 - doesn't exist for that release, and that is exactly what any package I try to download asks me to install... And, as already said, it seems there are no virtual packages in Panther.... but then again, they say further down in this phorum that they shold be there.... Gee, I'm confused!!
