The command gives the following result, of which I understand Nil (i'm a
 fink and macosx newbie):

 -rw-r--r--  1 root  wheel  1009576 24 Sep 09:24
 /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.6.2.dylib
 lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel       16  5 Dec 01:56
 /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.6.dylib -> libX11.6.2.dylib
 -rw-r--r--  1 root  admin  1554220  4 Dec 21:49 /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.a
 lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel       16  5 Dec 01:56
 /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.dylib -> libX11.6.2.dylib

 The version of fink is 0.6.4 (as far as I'm concerned, just ran
 selfupdate).
 I don't know if that's the problem, but it seems that the placeholder file
 for existing xfree86 - system-xfree86 - doesn't exist for that release,
 and that is exactly what any package I try to download asks me to
 install... And, as already said, it seems there are no virtual packages in
 Panther.... but then again, they say further down in this phorum that they
 shold be there....
 Gee, I'm confused!!

 Best regards,
 Thoeger
