OK from this it looks like system-xfree86 isn't even installed.

Have you reinstalled disk 3 from panther and x11SDK from Disk 4?

As you see, there simply is no system-xfree86 part... Not a trace. That is
what confuses me... Could there be any other libraries confusing OSX...?

Sorry, but it still didn't work... Is system-xfree86 supposed to be in

I have just recovered from the same proble. Do:

fink-virtual-pkgs

Package: system-xfree86 Status: install ok installed Version: 2:4.3-1 description: [placeholder for user installed x11] provides: x11, x11-shlibs, libgl, libgl-shlibs, xft2, xft1-shlibs, xft2-shlibs, rman, fontconfig1, fontconfig1-shlibs, xfree86-base-threaded-shlibs, xfree86-base-threaded

If the system-xfree86 part doesn't look like this then:

Do a "sudo rm -rf /Library/Receipts/X11*" and re-install X11User and
the SDK and it should work right. Sometimes Installer.app can get a
little confused if a receipt exists but the files aren't there.

Benjamin Reed gave me this hint and it worked for me

Hey, I've got a little problem here.... I'm a danish student running
Panther on G4, and I'm really having a hard time getting fink to

the apple x11. I tried reinstalling the x11user.pkg, the
Developer.mpkg
and the X11SDK.pkg over and over again, and still fink stubbornly
refuses
to find any x11 virtual packages. I just ran self-upgrade.... Should
I
just
remove the whole fink bunch and reinstall it, or what?
It's getting annoying....

I really hope someone can help me...
