sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

This is fixed in the 10.3-built-binaries that went up in the last few days.

Hmm, I am not so sure if this is the same problem. I find these symbols defined in /usr/X11R6/lib/libfreetype.6.dylib in the X11 versions for Panther, but not in xfree86-4.2 or Apple's beta3. This is just the other way round from things like FT_Access_Frame.

I suspect Frederik either has some missing or old libraries in /usr/X11R6/lib or extra (old) libfreetype dylibs in /sw/lib or in /usr/local/lib. I remember he had a version problem with /sw/lib/libfreetype.6.dylib some time ago, and he is having (or had earlier today) problems of fink acknowledging his X11 installation. This may be related.
