gBrowse is a graphical genome browser. It basically consist of many CGI scripts that takes advantages of BioPerl as well as many other graphical interfaces. It also requires libpng, libjpg and gd (lowercase gd; gd-2.0.15) as well as a slew of other libraries and perl modules (including BioPerl). It also uses MySQL. Many of the required stuff are available through Fink. However, I was told by people who are closely involved in the development of gBrowse not to use Fink installed libraries for gBrowse for these libraries could have been installed in places where gBrowse scripts might have hard time finding them.
Unfortunately, I am having a hard time installing gd due to the lack of libpng.config (or something like that). I know that when Fink installs libpng, this file is there, but it's in one of the subdirectories in /sw.
My thought was to install all the necessary components through Fink, then link them symbolically from wherever they normally would be to the real files. Unfortunately, I don't know enough of the Unix system to know where all these files are installed normally and in Fink. Can somebody give me a pointer as to where to look to find out all the relevant information?

If you run
dpkg -L <packagename>
it will print out a list of all of the files included in <packagename>
