Hi Martin, do you have the threads from 3/16/04 about xcdroast or can you point me in the right direction to view the thread? Is is on the website or just part of the post that goes across in the mailing list. I actually signed up to the mailing list not so long ago, so I don't have any thread from 3/16/04.

On another note, I tried downloading 10.2-gcc3.3, but it did not installed and the only files that showed up were the ones that I mentioned earlier in the prior email below:

/sw/fink/10.2/unstable/main/finkinfo/utils/xcdroast.info
/sw/fink/10.2/unstable/main/finkinfo/utils/xcdroast.patch
/sw/fink/10.2-gcc3.3/unstable/main/finkinfo/utils/xcdroast.info
/sw/fink/10.2-gcc3.3/unstable/main/finkinfo/utils/xcdroast.patch

That is when I went directly to the website of the author and downloaded 10.3.

after going back and looking for xcdroast-0.98alpha15 application, I found it in a location where I did not put it. The application now resides in

/sw/fink.old/10.3/local/main/finkinfo; the other files in the directory are as follows:

ReadMe.rtf
Start X-CD-Roast.app
xcdroast-manual.pdf
Start X-CD-Roast (German).app
xcdroast-0.98alpha15.pkg

They may have move to fink.old when I used the fink update all command. The only thing in my

/sw/fink/dists/local/main/finkinfo directory now is the xcdroast.info and xcdroast.patch that I just put their today based on Hanspeter's suggestion.

I will try and work with the maintainer to get this issue resolved.
thx

Ok, after all the frustration, I finally got xcdroast installed. A lot of work if I do say so myself. What I finally did was just to go to the main website at
http://www.xcdroast.org/xcdr098/xcdrosX.html for the image file
I then copied all the files from the xcdroast volume to the
/sw/fink/dists/local/main/finkinfo directory.
I am running version xcdroast-0.98alpha15.dm for Panther, Fink considers this package unstable.
I tried the fink install xcdroast command, but receive the following message that read, "Failed: no package found for specification 'xcdroast'!"
So I simply launched the package from the finkinfo directory. Everything installed and I was able to start xcdroast without any problems.
However, this package is still not showing in FinkCommander so I am wondering if Fink is handling this package or not even though it is in the finkinfo directory.

As you can see on the page http://fink.sourceforge.net/pdb/package.php/xcdroast, the xcdroast package exists only in the 10.2-gcc3.3/unstable distribution. You are probably using the 10.3 distribution and the package does not exist there.

I don't know what files you put into your directory /sw/fink/dists/local/main/finkinfo. If you had put the xcdroast.info and xcdroast.patch files from the 10.2-gcc3.3 tree there, fink and FinkCommander would have seen the package and would have allowed you to install it from source. Any other files except *.info files and their accompanying *.patch files in that directory are not seen by fink.

Whether this procedure would have succeeded, I don't know, you can still try. As to why the package does not exist in 10.3, maybe the maintainer just had no time to test it, or maybe it doesn't work, I don't know either.

On March 16, there was a thread "Xcdroast in 10.3 tree" on the fink-users group which might be of interest to you.

If you give positive (or negative) feedback about compiling the xcdroast package from 10.2-gcc3.3 on 10.3, this might help moving the package over to 10.3.
