Following advice in the "X11 Trouble..." thread I installed the X11 SDK. This changed the problem - dpkg now said "gtk+2-dev depends on gtk+2 (= 2.2.4-2); however: Version of gtk+2 on system is 2.2.4-3."


I looked at this in FinkCommander which showed that the gtk+2-shlibs were out of sync with the other components. Install failed but helpfully suggested using apt-get on the command line. This worked.

Now, several hours later, cssed is running
