Is this the OSX Terminal application? If so, then you have to set the DISPLAY environment variable explicitly. Running XFree86 only sets DISPLAY for X11-based terminals (xterm, et al.).

When I do this from any other remote Linux machine, it works okay. Am I running the wrong xfree86 packages, or have I configured something wrong? Or is this impossible on Mac OS X?
