Esteemed Librarian..
Any one who has succeeded so far into your end of physics, must get tired of re-answering the same old questions. Have you ever thought to just in your signature block put one (1) to twenty-five (25) URL's to FAQ's with the good answer from last time someone stumbled on the same item.
So the URL / FAQ for Methods 1 and 2, rootless and full screen, the step-by-step cookbook is where?
I don't think we've got a current one--this is something that probably needs to go along with the overhaul of our "Running X11" document.
It's not that complicated in any case (I'll be pedantic so that I can grab this from the log to put in the docs later):
1) Set yourself up to use KDE or GNOME via a .xinitrc file (examples are given):
http://fink.sourceforge.net/doc/x11/run-xfree86.php#xinitrc
2) Run X11 (e.g. via the application icon)
a) If you're using Apple's X11, then it probably will default to rootless mode. In the Output pane of the Preferences, you just need to turn on the Full screen mode (and as it says on this pane you switch from Aqua to X11 via Command-option-A. You can switch from fullscreen to rootless while you're running.
b) If you're using XFree86 or X.org you will typically (unless a preference has been set to the contrary) get a dialog box that asks you which mode you want. For these two flavors of X11, you have to restart to switch between rootless and fullscreen mode.
This is really so good to be able to steal a little bit of the universal mind and implement it .. leaving with a feeling of having some fun and less bored than some of our average work days.
I hope the LDX works better than the super-collider, one of my ex-bosses relative non-successes. I guess I am glad I bailed out on physics. So much chance for great successes or great failures. Has LDX had a working scaled physical demo?
We've actually started running, and are moving towards our nominal parameters.
