Fink may install packages that are also exist elsewhere on your
system. This is no problem: fink restricts itself to the /sw directory
and does not overwrite your system's files. In particular, fink always
installs its own bzip2 package.

The thing fink cannot do in general is automatically recognize
something you install manually and treat it as if it were fink's own
form of that package.
