I was trying to install the 'gdal' package on my Intel Mac (I was
successful on a PPC Mac). I had a failure during the install. So I
tried again. It chugged for awhile and then failed again. I tried a
third time but then it quit right away. After doing some probing I
was able to determine that it was failing while trying to install a
dependency package 'g95'. I scrubbed around the FAQ looking for hits
on "g95", "lockwait", "dpkg", "code", "status", "tar", and other
things. When I've had a problem in the past, I often was pointed to
the solution in the FAQ, but often the hardest part is going from the
output I have to the answer in the FAQ. I tried each solution which
looked promising, to no avail. Here are some of the things I tried
with the appropriate output:
$ sudo apt-get update ; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
