My wife uses NeoOffice quite happily. I have installed OpenOffice from a binary from a Fink partner in Japan and don't know if that is still available. It runs under X environment but there are OpenOffice versions for Mac to run under X11 on the OpenOffice.org website and there is work going on to port a native, aqua, version that is a few months out. The other office suites and apps that are ported by the Fink project are, IMHO, are not up to OpenOffice.org suite plus OOo is very usable with the ubiquitous MS Office documents, both creating and reading. Fink and X are different than what you are used to with OS X. NeoOffice is not-it runs natively in OS X. The Fink ported packages act and look like the Unix and Linux apps that they are. Picking a nice window manager, and IMHO KDE is the only good choice with Fink, gives you a very nice desktop but again, it is not like OS X and you are running a Unix/Linux type environment. Personally I love it and I dual-boot my Powerbook with Linux and also have OS X and the Fink supported Unix environment so it's like have 3 operating systems on one computer. Though in reality the Fink/Unix environment is not a distinct OS at all, it just looks like one! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
