Thanks, Alexander!

Well, I thought I was on my merry way until just after this step, when I
decided to perform selfupdate and update-all before getting to Apple's
X11User and X11SDK. There were no problems with selfupdate, but update-all
stopped here:

"Failed: Fink::SysState: Could not resolve inconsistent dependencies"

I wondered if it was related to the 10.4.9 update. I'm using a Core Duo
MacBook Pro.

I ran update-all again and this time the fail message included the
suggestion that I try the following commands, which fixed the problem.

fink scanpackages
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gettext-dev=0.10.40-25 gettext=0.10.40-25

BTW, did you know you can install the system using the conventional Apple
install method on a Core Duo from the custom disk set that comes with a Core
2 Duo model? This is the first time I can remember in a very long time being
able to do the default installation from a set of disks that shipped with a
different model Mac. (The system I'm using wasn't actually installed this
way, in case you're wondering if doing that might be causing problems with
my new Fink.)
