That's all fine, so let's try another potential place for issues.  Have 
you applied any of the unofficial (but made by an Apple engineer) 
updates for Apple's X11 server from 
http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/xquartz/wiki/Releases ?  If not, or 
if you don't have the 2.1.3 update yet, get that.
