Here comes the output:
Package: system-pkgconfig-x11
Status: install ok installed
Version: 1.1.3-1
homepage: http://www.finkproject.org/faq/usage-general.php#virtpackage
description: [virtual pkgconfig package representing x11]
This is the only package containing the keywork "x11"
Thanks

Try "fink-virtual-pkgs --debug". That will produce verbose output
as to
what's going on in the x11 virtual package generation.
Unfortunately, Apple seems to have stopped putting the X11User
package online
after 10.3

Alexander,
thank you for your help. I think I had the original Leopard-shipped
X11 version correctly installed before I upgraded to X11 2.1.4, but
I'm not sure. So, I think I ought to re-install it, try fink, and
then
possibly upgrade. Unfortunately, I'm away from my place at the
moment.
So, do you think I could download the original version somewhere?
Maybe apple.com? I tried googling around for a while, but could not
come up with anything. I guess I will have to wait to get my hands
back on the Leopard DVD.
Thanks.

Hi folks,
I'm running Leopard 10.5.2. To get Fink installed, I did the
following:
- I installed the latest version of X11 (2.1.4)
- I installed the latest version of XCode Tools (3.0)
Now, I bootstrapped Fink and everything went fine. Unfortunately,
whenever I type "fink install SomePackage" I get this very
annoying "Can't resolve dependency x11 for package SomePackage"
message.
Is there a known incompatibility with the latest versions of X11
or XCode Tools? Or do I need something else, like, say, X11 SDK?
Thank you in advance.

You definitely need the X11SDK on Leopard, as you're going to be
building everything from source for now.
But you said that you're missing "x11", not "x11-dev". Is that
indeed the case? Did you install the X11User package from the OS
install and _then_ apply the 2.1.4 update? According to
http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/xquartz/wiki/X112.1.4
" Download X11-2.1.4.pkg
<http://xquartz.macosforge.org/downloads/X11-2.1.4.pkg
, and open it to install with Leopard's Installer. You will need to
have Leopard's X11 package installed. If you uninstalled it or
deselected it during your OS install, please install it from the
installation DVD."
