Hi,

That made a big difference; this time, the installation seemed to almost complete (going all the way through the "% installing" and then some), even installing the manpages. However, something then happened near the end:

<excerpt of what appeared to me to be the error:>

What went wrong this time?

Hi,

I'm having trouble getting Fink to work on OS X 10.5 on my Macbook,
which has a 2.4 GHz Intel dual-core processor. ( I am very much a
beginner at this, although I know I have correctly installed Apple's
X11 and Xtools 3.0 on my Macbook).

I installed fink-0.28.1, compiling from source, which seemed to
complete without any problems. However, when I try to install
packages (after the required self update), Fink invariably fails. (I
have both stable and unstable enabled in fink.conf.)

For example, I tried installing all of KDE with the command:

fink install bundle-kde-ssl

When I did this, the installation seemed to proceed correctly for a
while, but then it failed. I found the following warnings and errors
near the end of the process:

libtool: link: warning: `/sw/lib//libintl.la' seems to be moved

What did I do wrong in trying to install KDE?

I hope I've provided the right information to diagnose this problem,
but please let me know if any additional information is needed and I
will try to obtain it.

Best regards,

John W.

Nothing. There's a problem with Apple's X11 right now.

The quick fix is to run

sudo perl -pi.bak -e 's|2.0.0|2.1.0|' /usr/X11/lib/libXrandr.la

(All right, all right, I'll try to get this in the FAQ)
