Running fink "info bioperl-pm588" produces the following

Information about 2518 packages read in 1 seconds.

Failed: no package found for specification 'bioperl-pm588'!



I'm not sure why I'm not seeing all the packages?

You need to do a selfupdate with rsync or cvs enabled (i.e. "fink
selfupdate-rsync" or "fink selfupdate-cvs).  "point" updates don't even
download new stable tree package descriptions; they just move you to the
next distribution version.
