Hi David,

Thanks for the suggestion, but that wasn't it.  I didn't have that  
line in either my .login or .tcshrc.  However, I installed a newer  
version of X11, 2.2.3, and that seemed to somehow get rid of the  
problem.  At least I think that was it...
