If you do Xcode after XQuartz that can cause problems, due to changes Apple made in the former. In that case you would want to reinstall XQuartz.
It looks like something that is being incorporated in the cairo build thinks you have the binary distribution's version of fontconfig2-shlibs, but you don't. It might be worth seeing the compiler output just before what you've posted to help debug that further.
