Thanks for your efforts, Alexander.
I was following the instructions on the "download" web page:
http://www.finkproject.org/download/index.php?phpLang=en
and did not see any reference to stable vs unstable. (specifically, the end
of step 6 where it says: "Once you've updated fink, you can install other
packages, using the same syntax, e.g sudo apt-get install gimp to install
the Gimp. Note, however, that not all fink packages are in binary form."
Per your instructions I've run:
% fink index -f
% fink -V (which didn't say anything about rsync or cvs)
% fink configure ( set it to allow unstable but left the rest at their
default setting)
% fink selfupdate-rsync (the configure command told me to do that)
- this did a whole ton of work, I'm gathering because of my enabling the
unstable tree?
I could then run "fink install wml" which did a whole ton of downloading and
compiling but there were several errors
which told me to rerun "fink selfupdate"
So I did
Then I tried again with "fink install wml" but it fails to compile

Sigh.
I'm two for two here. I tried darwin ports and now fink. Both had wml
listed, but neither works on my box.
I may have to install Linux under Virtualbox to get wml to run.
