Brian,
If you had X11 2.4.0 installed and built X11 related
fink packages before upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard and
upgrading fink, you will have problems. The X11 in Snow Leopard
is based on an earlier X11 2.3.3 release and is missing newer
components from X11 2.4.0. While you could try adding some of
these files manually to X11, you're far better off just doing a
clean install in a new /sw.
We really should have a warning about this issue on the
finkproject.org home page. The current situation is rather
bleak for continued X11 Xquartz support in fink under Snow
Leopard. The Xquartz developers will be installing their
Snow Leopard version of X11 Xquartz into /opt so that it
doesn't overwrite the system version. This means we have
to choose between three options...

1) Fink uses the system X11 only.
2) Fink selects between using the system X11 or Xquartz
X11 at the time fink is installed.
3) We create our own fink X11 packages (ala MacPorts)
and use those instead of the system X11 or the Xquartz
X11. It is doubtful we have the manpower to do this
last option.

                Jack
