Thank you.  That got the install working.  However, it quit part way through, 
after doing the downloads and patching, with the following error message and 
comments (I have included the successful checks preceding the error as well):

Before reporting any errors, please run "fink selfupdate" and try again.
Also try using "fink configure" to set your maximum build jobs to 1 and
attempt to build the package again.

The remaninder of the config.log was just the program that generated the error 
message.  If you want that I can send it.


Both running  "fink selfupdate" and "fink configure" resulted in error messages 
that Xcode was not installed.  Should I just copy everything from the 
/Developer/usr/bin directory into the /usr/bin directory?  I presume all these 
errors are occurring because expected files are not in /usr/bin.
