Okay okay okay. I'll work out some tests.
I am guessing that the differences will be fairly insignificant, but you are both correct, it would be good to know for sure :)
On another thought, if we do decide that it is worth stripping libraries, we could provide libfoo.x.y_debug.dylib in a similar fashion to apple and ask users to set DYLD_IMAGE_SUFFIX to get a decent backtrace.
Anyway, I'm full of "bright" ideas, but no numbers, so I'll go get some numbers later today.
