Hi all,

Actually I tried to provoke a discussion about the bin-dist, thought the turnover of packages to stable is a related issue. Maybe if all packages in stable become available as binaries in a reasonable time (hours?) the motivation (both of users and maintainers) to accelerate this turnover will be increased.

And no one answered that part because it's been re-hashed on this list and on IRC many times. Currently, there is no good way of building a bindist fully automatically in the way it should be, although we're getting closer. It's not like we don't have one because we never thought about it, or because we don't want it. We do, it's just not time yet.

Many bits of the puzzle that needed to be done have been implemented over the last few months but not everything is in place yet. I assure you, as soon as it's technically feasible to (properly) automatically create a bindist, we will be doing so.

Also, the SourceForge compile farm is not available for doing bindist builds because you have to be root to build the bindist.
