perl -pi -e 's/hardcode_direct=yes/hardcode_direct=no/g' configure
Will also often fix this. You may need to do hardcode_direct_CXX too if the build uses c++.
If you use setLDFLAGS: -L./.libs please make sure it does not end up in the installed .la's dependency_libs.
