It only would suit our needs, if ...
a) all involved tools (mv, cp, install) are built without two-level namespaces 
(in all variations that may occur, i.e. /usr/bin/* vs. /sw/bin/*),
b) there is a way to extract all the "fake" ownership information, so that we 
can apply it when building the .deb file.
