I am having similar problems. I set the hostname in hostconfig but now get the error msg.:
Could not look up internet address for gravenstein. This will prevent GNOME from operating correctly. GNOME then suggests adding gravenstein to /etc/hosts, but this didn't help. I do have a IP address assigned.
