Dear Douglas,

If you have libxpg4 installed, that may be the cause of your KDE startup 
problem. I had the same problem as you, and it was caused by libxpg4 
setting a certain environment variable (DYLD_FORCE_FLAT_NAMESPACE, if 
you really want to know). I don't really need libxpg4, and removing it 
solved the problem for me. (After removing you have to restart all your 
terminals and X's.) I've sent a message to fink-devel about this.
