This is rather a long mail about my plight.Pls bear with me.
I have been trying to install ddd on my MAC OS X(10.1.5).
I have so far(for last two weeks) tried following stuff but without any success.
I used dselect to install lesstif(0.93.18-2) binaries.I have fink(0.4.0).
I then used "fink install ddd" to download ddd-3.3.1-2.
The install phase(and NOT compilation/link) via fink install failed reporting that
move of
/sw/src/root-ddd-3-3-1.2/.../ddd.exe to ddd failed.
??? Would somebody like to confirm this bug and fix it?
However I went ahead and did a manual make and make install which installed
ddd. It copied ddd binary to /usr/local/bin/ ,
however the shared libraries(motif libraries libXm.2.0.2....)
were installed /sw/lib/... by binary installation of lesstif.
??? This seems to be another likely problem with default source install.
I managed to set soft link to them from /usr/lib/...
Hence I got of to ddd working but when I launch ddd it says
that motif version is 3.0.0 and reqd version is 5.0.0 and quits.
I scanned thru mail archives to find that it could be because of
my machine not having latest update.Somebody suggested
I use following
fink selfupdate-cvs
fink update lesstif
fink rebuild ddd.
but it seems at my place I do not have outside access to any port other
that ftp,http and telnet and it is difficult for me to get one.
Therefore I went ahead and downloaded lesstif 0.93.34-2... via ftp.
I went about internet and assured myself that it was the most recent version of
lesstif available.I got fink to compile lesstif and again got errors during install
phase (similar to ones I got with ddd above but this time they were for some man
pages stuff
which was there but was extracted/copied at wrong location inside temp installation
directory root-lesstif-0.93.34/....).
???Can somebody verify and correct this problem and post it at fink?.

I subsequently carried out the same procedure with ddd(compile and install)
and launched ddd only to get the same error
ddd: that motif version is 3.0.0 and reqd version is 5.0.0 and the ddd quits.
Can somebody guide me thru? I am a rather newbie to fink and opensource
in general?
